This is a guided hike of the Mystic Falls and Biscuit Basin overlook trail from the Grand Loop Road. We have another, longer, version of this hike which starts at Old Faithful.
There are two ways we can access this hike. One is through Biscuit Basin, and the other puts us into the wilderness immediately. We’ll do one of them on the way there and the other on the return leg.
Whichever way we start, we’ll make our way to Mystic Falls, across meadows and through a forest, before following the Little Firehole River towards Mystic Falls. After exploring Mystic Falls for a while, it’s time to take a switchback trail up a fairly steep hill towards the Biscuit Basin overlook, and a great view of the geyser basin below and the Upper Geyser Basin in the distance. There is a 500 foot (152 metres) gain in elevation on the climb up to the top of the hill. The trail is approximately 4.9 miles (7.9 kilometres) long.
We have a shorter version of this hike, which takes the trail to Mystic Falls, but not the Biscuit Basin overlook.
There are also two longer versions of this hike, which start at Old Faithful. One of these was mentioned above. It hikes to both Mystic Falls and the Biscuit Basin overlook. The second trail from Old Faithful just visits Mystic Falls, but not the Biscuit Basin overlook.
Please check out the videos we have of the Lone Star Geyser hiking trail.

Tour Notes
We regret that cancellations and changes will not be accepted, and refunds will not be given. Half the amount may be charged to your card when you make the booking, and the balance will be charged 45 days from the tour date. An attempted or purported cancellation will result in the entire amount being charged to your card immediately.

If there are six or fewer people on the tour, a shuttle may transport you between Salt Lake and east Idaho, where one of our guides will pick you up and take you to Yellowstone. If this happens, the departure and drop off locations will be the Salt Lake City airport and a central Salt Lake downtown location. If there are more than six people, a dedicated guide and vehicle will transport you all the way.
This is a small group tour, with the possible exception of the shuttle between Salt Lake and east Idaho, where a bus may be used. The shuttle may make several stops on the way to east Idaho.
Parts of this tour may be provided by other vendors we use.
Times are approximate. The itinerary may change without notice, and we cannot be responsible for the consequences of delays. At the beginning and end, of the season, road closures and weather conditions may prevent this tour being run as detailed. In particular, the road from Old Faithful to Grand Teton generally opens in mid-May. General road maintenance in the park may affect the way this tour operates.
Two nights’ lodging are included at Yellowstone Motel, or similar, in West Yellowstone.
Please do not make any plans that depend on this tour, until you receive our confirmation email.
This tour has a two person minimum for most of the season, and four people in the quiet times.
The entrance fees to the park are included.
Three picnic or sack lunches are the only meals included.
