The Fairy Falls trail is basically flat, and your guide will lead you across the Firehole River and into the Midway Geyser Basin. The first part of the trail follows the river, past a turnoff to an overlook of Grand Prismatic Spring up a little hill. This is not generally included on our Fairy Falls hike, but please let us know if you would like to do it as an add-on to your hike.
We’ll continue past the back side of Grand Prismatic, before turning off onto another trail which will lead us to Fairy Falls. When we get to the waterfall, you’ll be able to explore for a while, before we cross over a creek and make our way along a trail to Imperial Geyser.
Although its eruptions are not that high, Imperial Geyser is in a beautiful setting, with a blue green pool surrounding it, and colorful bacteria mats running in a stream off the pool. We’ll follow the stream until we see Spa Geyser, and then continue hiking on a loop trail back to Fairy Falls.
The hike is approximately three miles (4.8 kilometres) long.
We have another hike which also visits Fairy Falls, but does not go to Imperial Geyser.
Please check out the videos we have on the Fairy Falls and Imperial Geyser hike.

If there are six or fewer people on the tour, a shuttle may transport you between Salt Lake and east Idaho, where one of our guides will pick you up and take you to Yellowstone. If this happens, the departure and drop off locations will be the Salt Lake City airport and a central Salt Lake downtown location. If there are more than six people, a dedicated guide and vehicle will transport you all the way.
This is a small group tour, with the possible exception of the shuttle between Salt Lake and east Idaho, where a bus may be used. The shuttle may make several stops on the way to east Idaho.
Parts of this tour may be provided by other vendors we use.
Times are approximate. The itinerary may change without notice, and we cannot be responsible for the consequences of delays. At the beginning and end, of the season, road closures and weather conditions may prevent this tour being run as detailed. In particular, the road from Old Faithful to Grand Teton generally opens in mid-May. General road maintenance in the park may affect the way this tour operates.
Two nights’ lodging are included at Yellowstone Motel, or similar, in West Yellowstone.
